E-cig 101 - Getting Started With An Ecigarette.

The world of vaping can be daunting. A quick Google search will provide hundreds of thousands of links to differing opinions on what constitutes the best kit for vaping, different mods, and much more. If you’re a beginning vaper who wants to see what all the fuss is about, we’ve got your starting point right here.

E-cig 101 - Getting Started With An Ecigarette.

What an e-cigarette looks like

The term “e-cigarette” was coined to describe early vaping devices which were designed to look like traditional cigarettes. Ecigs are pretty much old hat now, but the term is still used to describe what we would call vaping kits.

The chargeable battery powers the ecig, and in particular the atomizer. The atomiser is where eliquid is turned into vapour by a coil of heated wire. The cartridge is where the eliquid is stored, and this part is interchangeable with “clearomisers” and “cartomisers”, which are essentially cartridges made from different materials. The cartridge will need eventual replacement on all e-cigarettes, and replacement cartridges for most manufacturers are cheaply available on our website or from any vape shop.

Some ecigarettes have a voltage control function which allow you to increase the voltage, and subsequently the amount of heat going through the atomiser. This generally allows for more vapour and flavour.

The ecigarette you buy depends on your smoking habits

If you are a pack-a-day smoker, you’ll need a kit that can keep up. You’ll also want to determine if you want something small and compact that mimics the traditional look and feel of a cigarette, or something larger that will let you get more flavour and vapour out of your eliquid.

The fun part: selecting your eliquid for your ecigarette

Eliquid is added to the cartridge of your ecig kit, following the instructions from the manufacturer. You can purchase eliquid in varying nicotine strengths, and in differing blends.

Eliquid contains four main components:

1.Propylene glycol

The acronym “PG” is usually used to describe this ingredient. The more PG in your eliquid, the higher the impact to the throat is. A heavy smoker may want to start out with a higher PG and adjust from there.

It is an odourless, non-toxic food-grade organic compound.

2. Vegetable glycerin

Vegetable glycerin is the compound that produces vapour, and it is typically abbreviated to “VG”. If you want more vapour, choose an eliquid with higher VG.

3. Flavour

We use a number of natural and chemical flavouring agents.

4. Nicotine

A heavy smoker will want to start with a higher nicotine concentration and then, if desired, ramp it down gradually if they want to wean themselves off of nicotine. You can purchase eliquid in strengths of 0-3% nicotine.

To get started with ecigs, there are only two steps. Select your starter kit, then choose from a range of tasty eliquids. That’s it. If you don’t want it to be more complicated than that, it doesn’t have to be, but if you want to turn vaping into a hobby, there are a range of different modifications you can make to your kit.
